A longtime educator in Shrewsbury, Kitty was the debate and speech teacher and coach for many years at the Shrewsbury High School. Her students won many competitions over the years. She retired in 1993.
In her honor, a special 13th team award is presented at the Mardi Gras Speech Carnivale tournament. The 13th award is the Kitty Viscardi Memorial Novice Award. For many years we were lucky to have Kitty personally present the award. This is a revolving plaque and is presented to the team with the highest total of sweepstakes points earned by all novice competitors at this year’s tournament when added to the total of the novice speakers’ sweepstakes points earned by that team at all previous Mardi Gras Speech Carnivales.
Kitty was inducted into the MSDL Hall of Fame in 2003
